Our Emergence Programme

Emergence is our programme aimed at male identifying individuals who have an interest in the performing arts and dance. This lively, fun and physical programme introduces boys from across the city of Hull into the performing arts, empowering them to bring different cultural backgrounds to thrive in a safe environment for everyone.

As well as our weekly workshops and classes, Emergence provides workshops to secondary schools across the city as an outreach programme to encourage young people to attend a weekly class in NAPA Hull’s building.

Emergence is centred around contact-based dance work. The programme follows the academic year, starting in the September and finishing each year in the July with students participating in weekly classes with a contact tutor working on dance skills, strengthening, fitness and contact work. Throughout each year, students are offered free workshops with industry professionals in various elements and aspects of the creative industry from  gymnastics and ballet to hip hop dance. The final project at the end of each year would be a filmed devised project on a location within the city of Hull.
